About the garden - Medium Garden

Empowering at Every Step brings visitors on a journey through the cancer landscape in Ireland – raising awareness, encouraging action where possible, highlighting support, and advocating for greater access to screening.

At its centre, charred timber creates a powerful visual reminder of cancer’s impact across our society. Pathways reflect individual journeys, recognising that every experience is different and that small, positive steps can make a meaningful difference.

The planting scheme draws on colours associated with the five most common cancers in Ireland – yellow for skin cancer, pink for breast, blue for prostate, white for lung and green for bowel – grounding the garden in the reality of cancer and the many people affected.

A seating area offers space to pause, while a suspended net symbolises the support structures that carry people through.

Grounded in evidence and lived experience, the garden reinforces a clear truth: awareness, prevention, screening and early diagnosis save lives.
