About the Designer
Based in Co. Monaghan, Benny Magennis is heavily involved in the creative art and visual industry across Ireland. He works through a variety of mediums, from product and furniture design to realising concept installations for public spaces and brands, as well as set design and activation for festivals and events.
Benny graduated from the National School of Furniture in London in 2011 and has served as a member of the Design & Craft Council of Ireland. He describes his style as fun, imaginative and thoughtful. This is Benny’s first show garden for Bord Bia Bloom.
Garden Overview
The Minions Garden transports viewers through a time machine tunnel to the 1970s where you will experience the vibrancy of the era through bright flowers, plants and Cordyline trees. Upcycled barrels in Minion yellow lend the cool, industrial feel of ’70s New York, while a converted Volkswagen Campervan houses a DJ deck for the best music of the age.
This medium-sized concept show garden is designed by Benny Magennis to celebrate the release of Minions: The Rise of Gru in Irish cinemas. It brings the colourful nostalgia of Gru’s childhood – when he first met his iconic Minions – to life.
